Maintenance & Shutdown

From day-to-day plant maintenance to full-scale plant shutdowns, Echo NDE provides efficient, experienced crews, who focus on our high-level service standards. Our integrity and maintenance services encompass all methods of conventional non-destructive testing complemented by our specialty services: 3D laser mapping, digital radiography, advanced ultrasonics, CUI inspections, eddy current, remote field testing (RFT) and IRIS inspections. 

Facility / Pipeline Construction

New pipeline and facility constructions typically require radiography crews, with pipelines of all lengths. Echo NDE provides a skilled team of professionals to deliver radiography services. With our quality, code-compliant products, Echo NDE is able to complete small fabrication projects to full-scale gas plant constructions. 

Corrosion Surveys

Echo NDE's highly trained personnel can monitor the condition of existing equipment using leading edge technology and can customize our corrosion surveys to our client’s individual requirements. Our surveys are able to supply Tmin, ST Loss, LT Loss, and retirement date calculations. Echo NDE is able to export our survey results into our client’s owner-user program compatible spreadsheet and also offer visual externals. As an extension of our services, we also offer digital radiography to complement our corrosion survey programs across Western Canada.

Pipeline Integrity

Direct assessment pipeline integrity is essential to mitigating operational risk and keeping your pipeline equipment in reliable condition. Our qualified technicians will perform multiple pipeline integrity tasks, including: field collection and correlation of ILI data; testing for stress corrosion cracking, manufacturing defects, and mechanical damage; and, reporting all defects in accordance with applicable codes. We’ve developed a remote reporting system our client’s integrity engineers can assess for real-time results. 

Asset Integrity

With an approved Quality Management System that has achieved an ABSA Certificate of Authorization Permit, Echo is able to augment our suite of services by adding support to our corrosion survey group by being able to carry out assessments of the results from the surveys, make recommendations for remedial action, future inspection plans and inspection intervals. Where a client requires Echo to perform external visual inspections as well the Integrity division has a detailed training process and in-depth matrix for deeming these inspectors competent for the work. Further to the support role for other divisions, Echo is able to provide our clients with a full suite of Integrity Services including acting as their Chief Inspector with ABSA, developing, implementing and maintaining their IMS as well as carrying out a whole host of in-house certified repairs.

Ultrasonic Inspections

Our ultrasonic services employ a variety of methods, including zero degree, shear wave, creep wave and phased array. We have the ability to complement ultrasonic information with radiography, as well as corrosion monitoring software that calculates ST Loss, LT Loss, Tmins and retirement dates. We operate state of the art flaw detectors, data loggers as well as phased array instruments. We can also offer automated ultrasonics (AUT) through subcontracted services.

As added service to our ultrasonic crews, we offer visual services to assist in collecting data while performing corrosion surveys by means of external inspections.

Radiographic Inspections

We have RT units available for work throughout Western Canada. Each unit comes fully equipped with a mobile radiographic darkroom and the units can work in any setting: pipeline, fabrication shops, facilities, and new construction sites. All of our units comply with all Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Regulations.

To complement our corrosion surveys and radiography services, Digital Radiography is also available for shadow shots and other information-only client requirements. Digital Radiography provides our clients with an interactive assessment tool, allowing images to be shared electronically.

Magnetic Particle Inspections

For inspections on materials such as steel, magnetic particle inspections are a great extension of the visual inspections to detect surface and near surface discontinuities. Specifically, these materials must be ferromagnetic so as a field can be applied to the test piece either locally or beyond. This is done in a variety of methods either visible or fluorescent.

Echo NDE can give you a fast and reliable magnetic particle examination using a multitude of techniques that are at the pinnacle of industry standards.

Liquid Penetrant Inspections

For materials that are unable to magnetize or where maximum flaw sensitivity is required or requested, liquid penetrant inspections are able to detect anomalies other methods of inspection may not recognize. Penetrants can be viewed in visible or fluorescent examination and ultimately check the overall quality during fabrication.

All of our field technicians who perform liquid penetrant inspections are trained to the highest level of industry best practices and are qualified by CGSB standards.

Tubular Services

Our tubular services offer inspection and management of tubular products and equipment, bottom hole assemblies and other assets while applying various techniques to a multitude of areas in all industries. This can be applied to a variety of equipment, temperatures and special applications such as ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Tubes can be inspected regularly to detect discontinuities.

Eddy Current Tubular (ET)

Used to detect surface-braking or near-surface cracking and variations in material compositions. This method is also useful in measuring the thickness of non-electrically conductive coatings on electrically conductive materials.

Remote Field Technology (RFT)

A method that is used to detect defects both inside and outside of ferrous tubes.

Internal Rotary Inspection System (IRIS)

An ultrasonic, non-destructive method used testing pipes and tubes that detects metal loss from inside and outside the tube wall.

Guided Wave Ultrasonics

Echo NDE now offers Guided Wave Ultrasonics (GW) in both long range and short range applications for the inspection of above and below ground piping using the Teletest Focus® and MRUT-C systems.

Long Range Guided Wave

Long Range Guided Wave is a low frequency ultrasonic technique that was developed as a rapid screening tool for in-service degradation, covering 100% of the volume of the inspected range. This technique allows for the testing of piping in limited and non-accessible locations with substantial cost-effective results. Typical applications are for insulated piping systems, cased road crossings, buried pipelines between excavations, pipeline risers, piping through concrete walls and sphere legs.

Short Range Guided Wave

Short Range Guided Wave uses a high frequency for higher resolution over shorter distances with little near field dead zone of inspection. This higher resolution allows for screening and covers 100% of the volume of the inspected range with ability to identify isolated pitting as well as general corrosion. This technique also allows for testing of piping in limited and non-accessible locations with substantial cost-effective results. Applications include soil-air riser interfaces, corrosion near piping features, corrosion under pipe supports and as a compliment to our Long Range system to complete thorough inspections.

 

Testing

Hardness Testing

Determining hardness is difficult, as it isn't defined in traditional terms that we would use for other inspection services. Relative hardness of materials can be assessed using a number of methods.

There are multiple industry best practices that Echo NDE uses to perform hardness testing, referencing the Brinell, Vickers, and Rockwell testing methods. Each of these methods has a wide range of scales, and our field technicians are knowledgeable in all functions of these approaches to hardness testing.

Positive Material Identification

Precision in identifying your products is important in many cases, and PMI is the most technical non destructive testing method. By utilizing PMI, we can determine the alloy composition of a specific material if the material certificate is missing or it is not clear what the composition is. This is especially beneficial for high quality metals like stainless steel and other high-alloy composites.

3D Laser Mapping

Echo NDE’s state-of-the-art HandySCAN 3D Portable Handheld scanner technology allows for accurate, efficient integrity reporting. Our system generates fast, reliable data detailing any equipment corrosion and mechanical damage, while integrating advanced functionalities including appropriate field collection and correlation of data. Our trained technicians quickly capture in-site reliable data related to losses and damages to determine the best course of action with more precision.

Spark Testing

Spark testing is one of the fastest and inexpensive ways to classify and sort the steel grade of ferrous materials. Observing the sparks emitted by a grinder on scrap pieces of your material, including the colour, volume, nature, and length of the sparks, can help us quickly compartmentalize the product in an efficient way.

CUI

Detect corrosion under insulation (CUI), wall loss and other deficiencies without removing insulation or non-magnetic coating with the Bracelet Probeâ„¢. The Bracelet Probeâ„¢ is an inspection tool designed for the detection of corrosion on piping and equipment. The electromagnetic NDE inspection is introduced for detection of external corrosion in pipes with coating and/or insulation. In-service piping and equipment can be inspected without interruption and without removal of insulation. The inspection is performed as a real-time scan with our state-of-the-art scanner. This technique is sensitive to both local and general wall loss.

Our line of work demands a higher standard of safety. With tools that include radioactive devices and other specialized equipment, our staff need to be beyond competent and well trained.

Not only does the work environment require a higher level of standards, but our services are also highly regulated by the government as well. We are proud to offer services that meet all government regulations and that we are an Enform registered member.

  • All members are in good standing with WCB throughout Western Canada.
